Doggy day care, boarding, collection and return are just some of the services on offer and we have used them all. We couldn’t recommend Sam and her team any more highly to anyone in this part of the world who needs help and support with their dog. Her broad knowledge of dogs, care and training have been invaluable to us and her reliability is second to none. Thank you!"

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
Hello, I’m Sam, founder of Betts Pets. Growing up as the daughter of a gamekeeper, animals were always part of everyday life. From an early age I was surrounded by dogs, farm animals and wildlife, and I quickly developed a deep respect and love for caring for them. My passion really began when I was eight years old. One of our Labradors had a litter and the smallest puppy — the runt — was sadly rejected by its mother. Determined to give that tiny puppy a chance, I cared for it day and night, sleeping beside it in a makeshift Moses basket and feeding it around the clock. Watching that fragile puppy grow stronger sparked a lifelong love for working with animals. Over the years I have cared for and raised almost every kind of domestic animal you can imagine — from chickens, ducks and cats to dogs, ferrets, orphaned lambs and horses. Caring for animals has never felt like work; it has always been a natural part of life. The Story of Betts Pets Betts Pets began in 2014, originally based in Hampstead Norreys in Berkshire. Thanks to wonderful client recommendations and growing demand, the business gradually expanded and I now work alongside a small team of fantastic, trusted people who help ensure our services run smoothly throughout the year. Keeping our care small-scale and personal is extremely important to us. We take the time to know every dog individually and build strong relationships with both pets and their owners. This means we quickly notice if anything is out of the ordinary and can ensure every dog feels safe, comfortable and understood during their time with us. Today Betts Pets is based at our beautiful thatched cottage in rural Purton near Swindon, where we offer countryside dog daycare and luxury home boarding. Countryside Care Our location provides the perfect environment for dogs to enjoy a balanced and enriching day. We have three acres of fully dog-secure exercise areas alongside a large garden, and we walk mainly on private land, allowing dogs to explore open countryside safely. These spaces are ideal for recall training, scent work, enrichment games, socialisation and safe off-lead exercise where appropriate. For dogs that cannot be let off the lead, our secure areas provide the freedom to move, explore and play safely within controlled surroundings. Experience You Can Trust The safety and wellbeing of every dog in our care is always our highest priority. Betts Pets is fully insured and licensed by Wiltshire Council for home boarding, where we have been awarded the highest 5-star rating. I am also CRB checked and trained in animal first aid, ensuring dogs are always in knowledgeable and responsible hands. We also operate a SafeKey system to ensure clients’ property remains secure, and when travelling to collect or return dogs we use an unmarked vehicle so that homes are never identified as being unattended. Dogs are transported safely and comfortably between home and our countryside location, making the journey simple and stress-free for both dogs and owners. A Personal Approach At Betts Pets we believe dogs deserve more than basic care — they deserve attention, understanding and a place where they feel truly at home. Whether visiting for daycare, boarding or an extended stay, every dog is treated as part of the family and cared for with patience, kindness and experience. Get in touch If you would like to discuss how Betts Pets can care for your dog, I would love to hear from you. Samantha Betts Betts Pets – Purton near Swindon

We’re so lucky to have found Betts Pets. Whether he’s with Sam for daycare, or boarding with her and her own dogs whilst we’re away, we have complete piece of mind that our lab is always safe and being extremely well cared for in a fun and happy home. We really appreciate that Sam varies and tailors each day’s activities, even building on any training we’ve been doing, rather than it being just a doggy free-for-all for 6 hours (which was really important for us to avoid). Our pup is always super excited to be picked-up in the morning, before coming home calm and very ready for a good night’s sleep!

SOME HAPPY BETTS PETS CLIENTS

A typical day in daycare or boarding
Our daycare is designed to provide a balanced day of activity, enrichment and relaxation. Dogs begin their day exploring secure meadows and countryside walks before returning home for structured play, scent games and training exercises. Afternoons are calmer — with brushing, quiet rest and plenty of affection — ensuring dogs return home relaxed, content and ready for a peaceful evening. Every guest follows a bespoke enrichment and exercise plan tailored to their personality, age and energy levels. Please note the following is an approximate. Puppies, young, elderly and dogs recovering from surgery are taken out more frequently and placed on a managed exercise programme to fit their capabilities. We vary the times of outings and meals with mature dogs to ensure that they are never expecting something at a given time. For example the main long, most exciting walk of each day, as written below as taking place in the morning, at least twice a week is swapped with a later outing of the day. This variation helps prevent any anticipation which may develop into unnecessary stress. The daily routine for fit, adult dogs for dogs in daycare or boarding with us. Daycare dogs are collected between 8-9 typically and returned between 5-6pm 07:00-07:30 Taken out for a short walk (30mins) 09.00-9.30 Light Breakfast – from their bowl or if preferred from a feeding puzzle bowl, an activity ball, buster cube, static maze, snuffle mat or pyramid puzzle. Followed by at least 60 mins of rest. 10.30-12.30 Morning group walks and play starting in my meadow allowing the dogs to interact and play before setting of on our walk. Heading out over differing routes over the surrounding mixture of terrain with wild flower meadows, crops and ancient woodland. 12.40-14.00 Rest with Chews and occasional snuffle mat or puzzle bowl. Shade bathing in summer and lie in front of the fire in winter. We also take this time to brush the dogs and take note of there condition and check them over. For more active dogs, training, find it games, scent work and lead work or your specific training . For mature very well behaved dogs free access to securely fenced paddocks to meander under supervision when weather allows. 14.30-15.30 Second walk of the day, a more leisurely walk. 18.00 -18.30 Main Meal (Always ensuring half an hour rest before and after eating meals) 19.00 Gentle relieving paddock wander (10-20 mins) In summer months this is the last relaxing walk of the day for boarding guests. 19.30-22.00 Rest, relaxation and cuddle time 22.30 Taken out for the last toilet break of the day before bedtime treat and lights out. Arranging a visit and trial day
Next steps...
After we have spoken on the phone and we both feel we could be a match the next step is to come for a visit. We will put a date in the diary where you will come over and chat about your dog so I get a better picture and you meet my dogs and I and see my home. You can see my Licence, Insurance and other documentation.
After we have met if both feel we are still a match we will then book a day for your dog to visit. I will ask you not to bring your dog on the initial visit, this enables you to relax and take in everything. I prefer my our dogs to meet in a controlled situation where I am fully focused on whats happening to ensure their happines and safety.
New environments without their family can be stressful.
I can't do this to my best ability and chat. You are welcome to bring a partner but I would ask that small people stay at home. I rarely have children visit and cannot ensure their safety with visiting dogs present.
I will need to see your dogs vaccination proof, including Kennel cough. Please check your dog has had the kennel cough vaccine as it is not always routinely included in vaccinations. Kennel cough is a live vaccine, I require 10 days clearance before I welcome any dog after this has been administered.
When we have a date for the trial day in our diary you will drop off your dog in the morning. During the trial day I will test for many things, I will try to engage with your dog, make friends and let them know I am their person when you aren't here.
They'll meet my dogs individually and I'll asses them, some things I look at are : lead walking, recall in the controlled space of my dog paddock, how they behave when excited, can I brush and examine them, how are they in the car and can I leave them alone briefly should I need to pop to the shop. My main aim for this day is for a dog to be happy in mine and my dogs company, to get them relaxed and able to enjoy the experience and want to come back. I want this to be the makings of a great stay, where you are both relaxed enjoying both your holidays.
Some dogs need more than one trial day / stay or may find a few sessions of daycare really help them before boarding. This ensures you and your dog have familiarity with me.
What happens if my dog fails its trial?
I have a very comprehensive assesment day/stay, fails do happen. Mainly from excessive barking, pestering behaviour and separation anxiety.
I'm happy to try and work with owners to help these problems but must ensure the safety and comfort of all dogs I care for so sadly this does mean in some cases dogs fail.
Trial days are £40
Boarding trials are Sat am until Sunday pm and are £80
